I was scrolling thru Twitter this afternoon and saw a tweet from @Pearl Jam announcing a Mobile App for Verizon Tour customers :D
So I of course stopped what I was doing and downloaded...
1)It's free :)
2) You can download select songs from this summers tour
3) Wallpaper for your phone (live shots from the tour!)
4) Tour Dates
5) Setlists

So it was about a year ago that I canceled all Verizon services due to horrific customer service. At the time I was told that I would lose my Flickr Pro account (Verizon + Yahoo! were somehow tied together... and Yahoo! owns Flickr). And for the past year I have been waiting for my little "pro" icon to disappear from my Flickr page. But it has remained! However, today when I went to my Flickr account there is a big yellow warning box at the top of my page telling me that due to not having Verizon internet service anymore.... my Pro status will expire Feb 1, 2009.
Haha! Good thing I am geting FIOS soon.

Verizon may suck at customer service, but they sure can grow grass!
My subdivision is moving forward with FIOS installation and Verizon (or its Contractors ) has been doing work overthe past few weeks. They needed to do some digging and then re-seeded to replace the grass. This picture shows the results, lots of grass is coming in quite nicely where they re-seeded. The funny thing is my HOA has been trying to get our lanscaping company to re-seed so some grass will grow because we have many patchy areas, and every year they say they re-seed, but nothing new grows.....
Maybe we will have to switch landscaping duties to Verizon ?

Today I ordered my new Comcast High Speed Internet... (in order to replace sucky Verizon)
Woohoo!
note to anyone else that plans to do the same.... they have different specials based on whether you are calling or doing it online. I found a $19.99 for 6 months special online, but when I called, they said they only had 3 months @ $19.99! So I went back online and ordered it there.
It's Official !! Verizon Sucks!!
Verizon started pushing a new Security Suite from Symantec/Norton. I decided to install it on Saturday. The install caused my laptop to shutdown, and the when I booted up again the install was half done, so I tried to uninstall in order to re-install, but there was no uninstaller available from the Verizon site (aside from an Active X cleanup) and Norton was not showing up in Add/Remove programs. I tried a few other things to get it off my laptop but nothing worked. Sunday I started messing with the registry settings... not good! After that the laptop couldn't connect to the internet.
So I got to call Verizon Tech Support -- Fun! After 40 minutes they told me that since I could boot into Safe Mode and connect to the internet it wasn't their problem! I told them it was their problem because it was their bad install and lack of an uninstall package that caused the problem. That wasn't getting me anywhere ( because the situation isn't covered by one of their scripts ).
Then I called Dell... I was on the phone with them for about 1 hour and 20 minutes, eventually we booted into safe mode, Googled "Norton Uninstaller", and downloaded an uninstall package, which did fix the issue.
Now I am ready to switch to Comcast... I can hold off on FIOS ... until Comcast customer service ticks me off .
So of course its poll time again.
Should Verizon Tech Support been more helpful?

One step closer to FIOS!!
Last night I had an HOA meeting... and Verizon (contractors) came to make their FIOS Presentation! Board voted to proceed. Looks like Verizon needs to survey the site to find the best way to get FIOS into the buildings. 2 options - 1 terminal mounted to the side of each building OR 1 terminal in each unit, located in the storage closet. The issue with option 2 is that if you are on the 3rd floor, you need the owners of the units directly below you to grant Verizon access to their storage closet, even if they do not want the service. The issue with option 1 is that with every unit that signs on for FIOS sharing the same terminal there is decreased speed.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Yay!! One step closer to FIOS installation!
Verizon laid the cable at the end of March along the main road leading to my subdivision. Last night I had my HOA meetinng and FIOS installation was on the agenda (Because I put it there! :P). Once Verizon begins officially offering the service they will need to send the installation schema to the management company and then the board will need to approve.
The FIOS tv offering looks to be great (especially the HD channnels), but now that Comcast fixed my servide problems with a new dvr/cablebox ( with dual tuner!) I am not as in as much of a hurry to switch ( except to get away from Comcast's excessive pricing!) especially now that Comcast announced they are adding Food Network and HGTV in HD on Aug 10!
I am mainly waiting for a good Verizon bundle that offers FIOS tv and internet along with broadband/VOIP phone service, so that I disconnect my Verizon landline service and then I get to have the fun of cancelling Vonage.
